| On the opposite side of the peninsula from Utoro, RAUSU , the first
place you come to when either descending the trail or coming down the
road over the pass, has a free public campsite, across the road from the
Kuma-no-yu outdoor onsen, also free. Proceeding downhill toward the town,
you come to Rausu's three large onsen hotels, the least shabby of which
is the Mine-no-yu (tel 01538/7-3001; ¥20,000-30,000). Further toward
town on the left are a few small minshuku: Minshuku Maruman (tel
01538/7-2479; ¥5000-7000, meals included) is probably the best deal in
town since the youth hostel has closed. |
